Gut amplifier by Ms. Jansen

Your heroes of The Grand are still working 14 hour shifts, writing, composing, producing and focusing every bit of creative energy on gettin´all the songs together. The first few recording dates are near, only a couple of weeks away, and by the looks of it we´ll try to record three full songs for session at Grand Sport. Great, huh? Last week, we had a few hours of brainstorming together with Martin Kvamme (www.unitdeltaplus.com) on the artwork for the single release, as well a couple of meetings with big and small fish of the record industry. We´re all really stoked about how things are turning out, and really looking forward to letting you hear some outtakes and stuff when it´s done. To keep you warm in the meantime, though, here´s a fan´s study of guitar pose from our last show of 2009, found on YouTube. The song is from our 2007 album, by the way. Have fun!

Great news! We´ve already got some songs together and we´re gonna start recording them soon. Only thing is, we´re out of dishes, so we booked a couple of days up in Grand Sport Studio instead, so we can at least cut some grooves. All this will happen during the first days of march, once the sun starts shining again. Soon, baby. Soon…..

Yeti sighted by Tonje Jansen

It’s been a while, huh? Finally, after quite a long period of touring, and then a well deserved break, The Grand is back in the studio. For about half a year now, we’ve been jamming and writing songs for the forthcoming album. And man, are we looking forward to laying it all down on tape.

Of course, we’re still writing. See, the way it works is you think you have a pretty good idea of what the album is gonna sound like, until you start working on it for real, and find out you’ve gotta rewrite and change most of what you’ve done… But as Sir Paul said, that’s how great stuff is made. And we had a blast last time around! Big love to all of you who came out to see our shows, bought the album, and danced around naked and drunk to our tracks. Hopefully, in a while you’ll be dancing around to new ones.

On this little blog here, you’ll find words, sounds, images (some of them moving) and other stuff  that kinda gives you an idea of what it feels like in the studio. The studio where all the writing and preproducing is done, by the way, is called Snaxville, and is basically a storage room turned into a recording studio in a basement somewhere in the northeast part of Oslo. It’s ugly, it’s freezing, and it’s dirty. But it’s home.

Oh, and here´s a clip from our show at Rockefeller, Oslo in 2008, just to reminisce a little….
